Wind Power and Alternative Energy

With Governor Pataki's announcement of his renewable energy initiative, in his 2003 State of the State address, wind power became increasingly important in New York's energy future.  Concerned with the effects of fossil-fired generation on the climate and the environment, Governor Pataki's proposal directed the Public Service Commission to ensure that, over the next ten years, 25 percent of the electricity sold in the state is derived from renewable sources. The Commission's renewable energy portfolio proceeding is ongoing.

Read and Laniado, LLP, a member of the American Wind Energy Association, remains at the forefront of renewable energy technologies and is currently involved in wind project initiatives throughout the state.  R&L assists its clients in the preparation of materials to meet the client's regulatory obligations associated with the construction of wind generation, fuel cells and other renewable energy sources.  The Firm also advises clients regarding the marketing of renewable energy attributes (also known as renewable energy credits or "RECs").

To date, R&L has assisted developers in siting upwards of 400 megawatts of wind energy.
